_Conference Overview_
We are pleased to invite submissions for the conference _The Syntax and
Semantics of Formalisations in Philosophy_, to be held at LMU Munich on
27-28 June 2025. This event will explore the relationship between formal
methods and philosophical inquiry, focusing on the challenges, debates,
and implications of formalising philosophical concepts.
The conference will feature four keynote talks and eight contributed
presentations mainly across three main topics:
_1. The Feasibility and Challenges of Formalising Philosophy:_ This
theme examines the adequacy of formal methods in capturing the nuances
of philosophical ideas, identifying common challenges such as potential
oversimplification and loss of depth, and exploring the relationships
between terms and concepts within formal systems.
_2. Pros and Cons of Using Formalisations in Philosophy:_ This topic
addresses the ongoing discussion regarding the value of formal methods
in philosophy, highlighting their benefits, including enhanced precision
and clarity, alongside the limitations imposed by formal systems, such
as the risk of diminishing the richness of philosophical discourse.
_3. Conceptual Pluralism and Choosing the Right Formalisation:_ This
theme recognises the diversity of formal methods and evaluates the
criteria for selecting the most appropriate approaches for philosophical
inquiry, considering the intended applications and goals of
formalisation.
We welcome contributions that provide original insights into these and
related topics. Historical approaches or comparative studies across
different philosophical schools are also encouraged.

(4) CALL FOR PAPERS (Dortmund, Deadline: 10.01.2025)
Dortmund Disputes on Economic Justice
Date: June 12 and 13, 2025.
Place: Dortmund, Germany
Keynotes: Miranda Fleischer (San Diego), Nicholas Vrousalis (Rotterdam)
Organizers: Peter Königs, Christian Neuhäuser, Lea Prix, Dick Timmer (TU
Dortmund University)
Most fundamental questions of economic justice remain unresolved. There
is little agreement on the place of markets, the nature of property, the
justifiability of taxes, the importance of workplace democracy, the
injustice of economic inequality, and, generally, the merits of
capitalism and socialism.
While debates on economic justice often take place within specific
political camps, where many assumptions are shared, the Dortmund
Disputes take a different approach. The idea of the Dortmund Disputes is
to foster debate across political boundaries. It seeks to bring together
open-minded scholars with diverse political outlooks--whether liberal
egalitarian, libertarian, socialist, conservative, or otherwise--who are
committed to our shared goal of advancing our understanding of economic
justice.
The keynote speakers for the first installment of the Dortmund Disputes
are Miranda Fleischer and Nicholas Vrousalis. Miranda Fleischer is
Richard and Kaye Woltman Professor in Finance at University of San
Diego's School of Law. Her work focuses on ethical and legal issues
surrounding taxation, wealth and wealth transfer, and charitable giving.
She's the co-author of a recent book on Universal Basic Income. Nicholas
Vrousalis is Associate Professor in Practical Philosophy at Erasmus
University Rotterdam [2]. His work revolves around distributive ethics,
democratic theory, and the history of political philosophy, with
emphasis on Kant, Hegel, and Marx. He is the author of a recent book on
capitalism and exploitation.
We invite scholars to apply with an abstract of around 500 words.
Abstracts will be selected based on their quality, fit with the spirit
of the conference, and broad alignment with the research interests of
the keynote speakers. They should be sent as PDF attachments to Swaantje
Siebke [swaantje.siebke(a)tu-dortmund.de], prepared for blind review. The
deadline for submission is January 10, 2025.
Limited funding is available to cover travel and accommodation expenses
for speakers who cannot otherwise finance these costs.

SSHAP is an international organization aimed at promoting discussion in

philosophy. It welcomes scholars interested in the many ways in which
this development was influenced by thinkers such as Bolzano, Brentano
and his school, Husserl, Frege, Russell, the Vienna Circle,
Wittgenstein, Tarski, Quine, and the Polish school, for instance, but
also seeks to promote work engaging with lesser-known figures and
trends, and its reception in countries right across the world.
Submissions to the SSHAP annual conference in all areas of the history
of analytic philosophy are welcome.

(6) VERANSTALTUNGSANKÜNDIGUNG (Innsbruck, 30-31.10.2024)
Book Symposium on Thomas Grundmann's forthcoming book "Expert Authority
and the Limits of Critical Thinking" (OUP)
Department of Christian Philosophy
University of Innsbruck
Dekanatssitzungssaal
Karl-Rahner-Platz 1
_Abstract of the book_: Public confidence in scientific experts is high,
particularly in times of crisis. But experts are not beyond doubt. In
his forthcoming book, Thomas Grundmann argues that a different attitude
towards experts is needed. Laypeople should stop thinking for themselves
and typically defer to experts. In short, laypeople should treat experts
as epistemic authorities. Grundmann presents a novel argument for this
bold view and engages with its main challenges. For example, doesn't the
view make experts too powerful and completely immune to criticism? The
book replies to these and many more concerns about the authority of
experts. On its way issues such as the history of epistemic authority,
expert identification, the role of expert authority in resisting
conspiracy theories, epistemic autonomy, and the role of experts in
politics are addressed.

Christine M. Korsgaard: Value and Freedom in Kant's Moral Philosophy

Dear All,
You are cordially invited to the next Pragmatic Academic Series workshop
on the topic of Conference Participation & Networking in Philosophy
directed at early-career philosophers.
Date: 16.10.24 - 13:15-14:45 - Room 2G, Neues Institutsgebäude,
Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Wien.
Speakers: Cathy Mason, Martin Kusch
Moderatior: Leah Ritterfeld
Giving good talks in philosophy is challenging. There's so much to
consider: the audience you're targeting, time constraints, how to make
complex content or technical terms understandable, and many more factors.
Academic conferences are also great places to network, so it's important
to make a good impression! This workshop is an unmissable opportunity
for early career philosophers to gain the knowledge they need to get the
most out of academic conferences and build a strong professional network
in philosophy.
Assistant Professor Cathy Mason (CEU) and Professor Martin Kusch
(UniWien) will provide clear guidance on selecting the most suitable
conferences for your work, creating compelling abstracts, and delivering
impactful talks. They'll also share their best advice for building
professional relationships, getting the most out of conference
attendance, navigating academic hierarchies, and developing inclusive
networking practices.
More information on the Pragmatic Academic Series workshops in the
WS24/25 can be found at:

Foucault and Marx: Ambivalences, Legacies, and Future Struggles
University of Vienna
18-19 October 2024
The international symposium "Foucault and Marx: Ambivalences, Legacies,
and Future Struggles" aims to explore the tense relationship between
Foucault and Marx and, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of
Foucault's death in 2024, to put it into perspective with regard to
Foucault's intellectual legacy. Foucault is generally perceived as a
harsh critic of Marxism, both in terms of its analytical possibilities
and political dangers. This contrasts strongly not only with Foucault's
repeated emphasis on the centrality of Marx, but also with clear
theoretical parallels. The subject of the symposium is therefore the
question of how this ambivalence is to be understood, what it means for
possible continuations of the Foucauldian project and to what extent the
Foucault-Marx connection can be made fruitful for current and future
questions.
No pre-registration, no fees.

(2) CALL FOR PAPERS (Wuppertal, Deadline: 15.11.2024)
Workshop on Scientific Pluralism, Epistemic Diversity, and Progress in
Science
_Workshop Date:_ 27.03. - 28.03.2025
_Location:_ University of Wupppertal
Bergische Universität Wuppertal
Glanzstoffhaus, 6th Floor
Kasinostraße 19 - 21
42103 Wuppertal
Germany
_Submission Deadline:_ 15.11.2024
_Notification of Acceptance:_ 15.12.2024
The idea that science should converge on a single, ultimate truth has
become contested as the dominant view in the academic world; scientific
pluralism has gained wide acceptance. However, these discussions have
become so rich and entangled that now we can speak of a confusing
"plurality of [scientific] pluralisms" (Wylie 2015). The overall goal of
this workshop is to examine and clarify different ideas of scientific
pluralism.
While proponents of scientific pluralism argue that pluralism offers a
range of epistemic benefits which are conducive to scientific progress
(Chang, 2012, 2022), pluralism not only comes with benefits but also
with costs (e.g., Lari and Mäki 2024). This raises the question of the
conditions under which pluralism contributes to scientific progress and
those under which it may impede it. In addition to its role in promoting
progress, the relationship between pluralism and the social and
institutional organisation of science is also a subject of growing
debate. Given that science is significantly shaped by social values
(Longino 1990), scientific pluralism is increasingly discussed in the
context of social and epistemic diversity as a crucial element for
objective and inclusive knowledge production. One of the primary
subjects to be addressed is that of how diverse research groups can
fruitfully collaborate in order to foster scientific progress, and what
part institutions play in this process.
The workshop investigates the complex relationship between scientific
pluralism, epistemic diversity and scientific progress, both
theoretically and through the examination of case studies. The overall
goal is to discuss whether pluralism hinders or contributes to progress,
and to explore the roles of institutional and social structures in this
dynamic. A particular focus is put on the social sciences, with an
emphasis on the fields of psychology and economics, but case studies
from any other field of science are very welcome.
_Workshop Themes and Questions:_
We invite submissions that address, but are not limited to, the
following questions and themes:
_1. Pluralism and Scientific Progress:_
* Under what specific conditions does pluralism contribute to scientific
progress, and in what contexts might it impede progress?
* How do different forms of pluralism (such as methodological,
theoretical, and epistemic) affect the course of scientific progress
across various disciplines?
* What kind of progress are we talking about in relation to scientific
pluralism?
_2. Epistemic Diversity:_
* What is the link between epistemic and social diversity and (value)
pluralism?
* How does epistemic diversity within research teams and scientific
communities influence the generation of knowledge?
* What are the benefits and challenges of fostering epistemic diversity
in scientific research, particularly in the social sciences?
_3. __Social Organization and Institutional Structures:_
* What roles do social organization and institutional structures play in
fostering or hindering pluralism and epistemic diversity in scientific
research?
* What institutional measures can be implemented to overcome barriers
and promote a more inclusive and cooperative scientific environment?
_4. Case Studies:_
* Which scientific fields, e.g. in the social sciences, are particularly
interesting for investigating the relationship between pluralism,
epistemic diversity, and progress? What lessons can be learned from
historical and current examples of pluralistic approaches in the various
scientific fields?
* What lessons can be learned from historical and current examples where
plurality seems to be lacking?
_Submission Guidelines:_
We welcome submissions from scholars at all career stages and specially
encourage PhD students and early career scholars to submit their work.
Abstracts should be no longer than 500 words, including references, and
must be prepared for anonymous review. Please send your abstract

(3) CALL FOR PAPERS (München, Deadline: 15.12.2024)
Munich Colloquium for Philosophy of Religion 2025
Globalizing Philosophy of Religion
LMU Munich, February 19-20, 2025
The Munich Colloquium in Philosophy of Religion is a forum for early
career philosophers (PhD students and PostDocs) from all fields and
backgrounds working on issues in philosophy of religion. It offers an
open space to present and discuss the participants' current projects.
The colloquium is organized jointly by the chair for philosophy of
religion (Sebastian Gäb) and the Romano Guardini chair (Ana Honnacker).
In recent years, philosophy of religion has more and more been
confronted with the charge of having reached a dead end. Critics argue
that as a discipline, philosophy of religion is preoccupied with Western
theism in its most scholastic version, and that it ignores non-Western
and non-theist forms of religion. Instead of studying just one
particular religion, it is argued, philosophers of religion should
rather devote their attention to the phenomenon of religion itself, in
all its different manifestations. Consequently, traditional philosophy
of religion should be replaced with a new, globalized philosophy of
religion, as e.g. Victoria Harrison, or Yujin Nagasawa have argued.
The colloquium will focus on all issues in connection with the concept
of a globalized philosophy of religion, for example: what methods should
philosophers of religion use when engaging with non-Western religions?
Can the concept of religion be applied globally? How can it be
distinguished from cognate concepts like philosophy, dharma, or dao?
What does 'religion' mean anyway? How could philosophers of religion
cooperate fruitfully with researchers from other fields like religious
studies or cultural studies? Are there examples of a successful global
approach to particular problems in philosophy of religion?
Deadline for submissions: December 15, 2024
Please submit an abstract for your presentation (25 minutes + 20 minutes
Q&A) as email attachment to: s.gaeb(a)lmu.de. Abstracts should not exceed
500 words (excluding references).
Limited funds are available for travel support.

Programm: https://normative-concepts-in-the-digital-age.org/#programme

Karoline Reinhardt. Zum Abschluss des ersten Konferenztages wird die
Pianistin Jennifer Klein im Kalkhof-Rose-Saal einen musikalischen
Beitrag leisten. Das volle Programm findet sich unter
https://normative-concepts-in-the-digital-age.org/#programme.
Interessierte können sich kostenlos unter

it is my pleasure to invite you to the third installment of the
Trans*formations talk series organized by the Vienna Doctoral School of
Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy, University of Vienna, which
provides insights into recent developments in trans* philosophizing.
This time, Eric Llaveria Caselles, currently working at the Center for
Interdisciplinary Women and Gender Studies (ZIFG) at the Technical
University Berlin, will give a talk titled "Epistemic Violence and Trans
Theory. A Cartography of Minor Truths."
When: Friday, October 18th 2024 15:00 - 16:30
Where: HS 3B, 3. Stock Neues Institutsgebäude (NIG), Universitätsstraße
7, 1010 Wien

Abstract:
For the transsexual subject to be able to emerge as a source of credible
speech, a fundamental critique of the western epistemic and symbolic
order had to gain traction. When Susan Stryker stood up at a Lesbian and
Gay History conference in New York in 1995 and yelled “I am a
transsexual and I am not sick!”, she reclaimed the participation of the
transsexual intellectual in the production of truths, refuting
discourses of dehumanization. This inaugural scene of Trans Studies
places the undoing of epistemic violence as both a precondition and a
fundamental commitment of trans theoretical practice.
But what does this commitment to emancipatory forms of knowledge
production entail? What are the contradictions of aspiring to
anti-normative purity? What conversations can we build on the repeated
condemnation of those reproducing symbolic violence? Does this
commitment not miss the practical reason of cultural narratives? And is
it possible to separate the epistemic violence from our sense of self,
our needs and desires? Do the voices of trans people really hold the key
to an emancipatory meaning? And if we betray the idea that we just need
to let trans people speak, what then can hold the possibility of undoing
epistemic violence?
In this talk, I reflect on these questions based on my own research
trajectory, which spans topics such as trans subcultural spaces,
neuroscientific studies of (trans)gender identity and trans social
reproduction in global capitalism. The talk traces the shifts of my
theoretical practice by building a personal cartography of minor truths.
I take the term “minor truths” from the title of a show by the artist
Spence Messih. Their glasswork compositions and philosophical
considerations introduce a phenomenological sensibility in my analysis,
inspiring me to search for a language that reflects the inseparability
of theoretical standpoint from affective states, social relationships
and political conjunctures. In conversation with Messih’s work, the talk
evolves in a non-linear motion connecting five modes of epistemic
experience: abstraction, vulnerability, praxeology, dialogue and
betrayal.
Bio:
Eric Llaveria Caselles is a PhD Candidate at the Center for
Interdisciplinary Women and Gender Studies (ZIFG) at the Technical
University Berlin. His recent publications explore the limitations of
gender identity positivism and queer deconstructivism as the two main
approaches to trans theory. His research builds on current trans Marxist
proposals and historical materialist traditions of gender theory to set
the groundwork for an alternative framework in Trans Studies.

Dear All,
You are cordially invited to the Workshop on Conference Participation
and Networking in Philosophy, which is part of the WS24/25 edition of
the Pragmatic Academic Series. Please find below the description of the
event.
Conference Participation and Networking in Philosophy
Date: 16.10.24 - 13:15-14:45 - Room 2G
Speakers: Cathy Mason (CEU), Martin Kusch
Moderator: Leah Ritterfeld
Giving good talks in philosophy is challenging. There's so much to
consider: the audience you're targeting, time constraints, how to make
complex content or technical terms understandable, and many more
factors.
Academic conferences are also great places to network, so it's important
to make a good impression! This 90-minute workshop is an unmissable
opportunity for early career philosophers to gain the knowledge they
need to get the most out of academic conferences and build a strong
professional network in philosophy.
Assistant Professor Cathy Mason (CEU) and Professor Martin Kusch will
provide clear guidance on selecting the most suitable conferences for
your work, creating compelling abstracts, and delivering impactful
talks. They'll also share their best advice for building professional
relationships, getting the most out of conference attendance, navigating
academic hierarchies, and developing inclusive networking practices.
More information about the WS24/25 Pragmatic Academic series can be

Dear all,
The PACE Project cordially invites you to the next talk of the
Metaphilosophical Talk Series by
Tim Button, University College London
Title: Artefacts of Representational Choices
Date: October 8th, 2024 (Tuesday)
Time: 16:45-18:15
Location: Room 3B, NIG, Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Wien
Abstract:
Kant asked: how is metaphysics so much as possible? Quine answered:
because metaphysics is broadly continuous with science. But Quine's
answer gives us no reason to think that "joint-carving" metaphysics is
possible. Joint-carvers want our theoretical primitives to keep track of
what is metaphysically primitive (or fundamental, as opposed to
derivative). But we have no reason to think that such a thing is
possible. To explain why, I'll offer some general considerations, a
particular case study (about space), and a logical argument. The upshot
of all of these is that we always end up with (arbitrary) artefacts of
representational choices.
We look forward to seeing you then!
Best wishes,
The PACE organising team

Dear all,
it is my pleasure to invite you to the third installment of the
Trans*formations talk series organized by the Vienna Doctoral School of
Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy, University of Vienna, which
provides insights into recent developments in trans* philosophizing.

Dear all,
I am pleased to hereby invite you to the next "Physics meets Philosophy"
talk:
Time: 23/09 (Monday) at 11:30
Location: Room 2H, NIG Universitätsstraße 7/2nd floor
Speaker: Prof Tomasz Bigaj (University of Warsaw)
Title: Identity of indiscernibles and modern physics (see abstract below)
In case you are not able to attend the event in person, you can connect
via the following Zoom link:
https://univienna.zoom.us/j/63418578318?pwd=h3u23UdTLw6hbrJqE8yPBHHKaeanHj.1
Meeting-ID: 634 1857 8318
Password: 166689
Abstract:
The metaphysical principle of the identity of indiscernibles states that
any two distinct objects must differ qualitatively. The exact meaning
and validity of this principle depends on how precisely we define
qualitative difference between objects. There are several options
considered in the philosophical literature, which I will briefly
outline. Subsequently I will pose the question of the purported
violation of this principle in modern physical theories, primarily in
quantum mechanics. It is often argued that the symmetrization postulate
regarding systems of so-called identical particles forces us to abandon
the identity of indiscernibles in its strongest form. I will show that
this is by no means a forgone conclusion. There are some formal methods
of individuating quantum particles of the same type which enable us to
distinguish them qualitatively in the majority of experimental
situations. I will also briefly discuss the status of the principle in
the physical theories of space-time. In this context the principle is
threatened primarily by the apparent existence of distinct but
qualitatively indistinguishable models of space-time, connected by
underlying symmetries of theories, such as the Galilean symmetries of
classical mechanics or diffeomorphisms of general relativity. One
solution to this challenge is to adopt the position of relationism with
respect to spacetime. I will argue that it is possible to identify the
symmetry-connected models without abandoning the view that spacetime is
an independent substance.

Dear all,
We are inviting abstracts for our Winter Workshop on "Rethinking Wild
Europe: European Perspectives on Wilderness, Rewilding and Biodiversity
Conservation", organized by The International Society for Environmental
Ethics (ISEE) and the Center for Environmental and Technology Ethics -
Prague (CETE-P)
7-8 February 2025, University of Vienna
Call for Abstracts (Deadline: 31. October 2024)
The convergent climate change and biodiversity crises increasingly
remind humans about the importance and precarity of their
socio-ecological surroundings, thus shifting perspectives on nature,
wild(er)ness and nonhuman others. This shift includes a renewed
appreciation for ‘the wild’. New responses to climate change and
biodiversity loss such as rewilding, spearheaded by organisations like
Rewilding Europe and Rewilding Britain, are rapidly gaining popularity
in Europe. Simultaneously, conservationists applaud the recent return of
large predators in many European regions. Other novel approaches to
ecological restoration and biodiversity conservation reflect a similar
desire to respect and restore wildlife, and to facilitate different
human-animal or human-nature relations. Long associated with other parts
of the world, wildness and wilderness appear to have made a come-back in
the European landscape and imagination. But what is the meaning of these
concepts in a European context? How do they influence the European
approach to biodiversity conservation? Do Western and Eastern European
approaches differentiate, or are they relatively similar?
This workshop will address the ethics and narratives surrounding
wilderness, wildness, rewilding, and ecological restoration in Europe.
We aim to assess the impact of these concepts and approaches on the
European landscape, which has historically been a hybrid mixture of
wildlife and human culture. The tension between, on the one hand, the
desire to welcome wild animals and wilderness (back) to Europe and, on
the other, preserving and rekindling cultural value and identity
animates the debate on rewilding, biodiversity conservation, and land
management. Wilderness, and more recently rewilding, have been
criticised as colonial, patriarchal, and anthropocentric concepts. While
much of this debate takes place in a North American context, Europe has
its own challenges to face: among them, human-wildlife conflict; ongoing
debates on land use, land access, and land sovereignty; divergent views
on wild(er)ness between conservationists and local stakeholders; and
concerns about animal welfare in rewilding projects. The event will
address these (and other) issues arising within European conservation
and rewilding.
Keynote speakers: Dr. Martin Drenthen, Associate professor in Philosophy
at Radboud University (NL); second keynote speaker TBA
We invite abstracts (300 words) for 15-minute presentations addressing
wild(erness) narratives and/or the ethics of rewilding, biodiversity,
wilderness and wild animal conservation, and ecological restoration,
with a primary focus on Europe. Possible topics may include (but are not
limited to):
o The distinct European approach to rewilding and conservation,
o Novel and critical approaches to conservation and rewilding (e.g.
place-based or community-led, decolonial, feminist, or compassionate
conservation approaches),
o Central and Eastern European perspectives,
o Conflicts of interests between local stakeholders and conservationists,
o Coexistence with large carnivores,
o (Overcoming) colonialism and patriarchy in conservation,
o Indigenous perspectives on conservation and land use,
o Socio-ecological justice in a rewilding or conservation context,
o Wild animal ethics,
o The role of technology and AI in conservation and rewilding,
o Changing human-animal or human-nature relations,
o The concept of wilderness in European history and philosophy,
o Contemporary European representations and meanings of wild(er)ness,
o Comparative perspectives on European approaches and conservation in
other parts of the world.
300-word abstracts, prepared for double-blind review, should be sent to
rethinkingwildeurope(a)gmail.com by October 31, 2024.
Please remove all identifying information from your abstract. In a
separate document, send us a cover letter including your name, title,
institutional affiliation, and a very short bio (max. 100 words).

the latest. There will be a registration fee of approximately between
50€ and 100€ for the event. A special issue in a leading international
journal is planned as a follow-up to the conference.
Organising team: Leonie Bossert (ISEE), Linde De Vroey (ISEE), Iwona

Dear all,
You are cordially invited to the conference
"At the Limits of Imagination: Otherness in Humans & Nonhuman Animals"
26-28 September 2024
Neues Institutsgebäude, Universitätsstraße 7, Lecture Hall 3D (3rd floor)
Keynote speaker: Alice Crary (The New School for Social Research)
This three-day conference will focus on the possibilities and limits of
imagination and empathy with regards to humans and non-human animals,
and on the tensions inherent in comparing or comparatively analyzing
both groups.
Imagined similarities and dissimilarities play a pivotal role in ethical
theories with regards to treatment of both human and non-human groups. It
has been argued, for example, that racialized and disabled people, and
nonhuman animals, have been discriminated against according to the same
logic that grounds inclusion and exclusion upon the possession of
certain distinctively human ‘abilities’: rationality, language,
autonomy, agency, etc. (e.g., Crary 2016; Taylor 2018; Crary and Gruen
2022).The presumed absence of these ‘abilities’ is equated with a
negative and inferior form of embodiment, against which the human norm
has in turn been defined. However, conflating their respective ethical
status also risks reinforcing the dehumanization of those human groups
by instrumentalizing their oppression in the service of animals
(Boisseron2019; Crary 2016; Kittay 2019).
This conference, organized by Martin Huth, Carlo Salzani, and Ruadhán J.
Flynn, will take place at the Department of Philosophy at the University
of Vienna as part of the project “The Limits of Imagination: Animals,
Empathy, Anthropomorphism” (P 35137-G; funded by the FWF, Austria).
Attendance is free, in person and online. Live closed captioning will be
available. For the conference program, full accessibility information,

Call for Registration: Feminist Analytic Philosophy
_Technical University Dortmund & Online_
Since the mid-20th century, feminist perspectives have received
considerable attention within the field of philosophy, particularly in
areas often associated with 'Continental philosophy'. Within the
'Analytic' tradition, though, feminist approaches have been rather
overlooked, marginalized, or even deprecated. However, in recent years,
researchers across all subdisciplines of Analytic Philosophy have
increasingly recognized the value of feminist philosophy and have
actively contributed to its development. This conference aims to share
and discuss the latest research by bringing together speakers who work
within a diverse range of feminist and analytic approaches to
philosophy, uniting both established experts and early career
researchers.
_Speakers:_
* Valérie Aucouturier (UCLouvain)
* Sara Ayhan (Ruhr University Bochum)
* Leda Berio (Ruhr University Bochum)

eigenen Ideen Raum geben?
Jungen DGPhil beim XXVI.
endlich losgeht. Eingeladen sind junge DGPhil-Mitglieder und alle, die

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS:
11. KONGRESS DER ÖSTERREICHISCHEN GESELLSCHAFT FÜR PHILOSOPHIE
_ZUKUNFT DENKEN_
25. BIS 28. FEBRUAR 2025
UNIVERSITÄT GRAZ
Der 11. Kongress der Österreichische Gesellschaft für Philosophie vom
25. bis 28. Februar 2025 in Graz widmet sich dem thematischen
Schwerpunkt „Zukunft denken“.
Philosophie steckt in Science-Fiction?

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS:
11TH CONGRESS OF THE AUSTRIAN SOCIETY FOR PHILOSOPHY
_THINKING THE FUTURE_
FEBRUARY 25TH TO 28TH, 2025
UNIVERSITY OF GRAZ
The 11th Congress of the Austrian Society for Philosophy will take place
from February 25th to 28th, 2025 at the University of Graz. It is
dedicated to the thematic focus „Thinking the Future“.
Philosophy not only involves abstract thought, but also the act of
envisioning and anticipating what lies ahead at a fundamental level.
However, contemplating the future concerns not only philosophy but also
societies and people in general – today more than ever and on a global
level. The future holds opportunities and risks. Sciences, the arts,
businesses and everyday cultures imagine possibilities and simulate
scenarios. They try to think both theoretically and empirically about
the consequences and the relationships between the development of
education, knowledge and society.
Philosophy cannot answer what future awaits humanity, but it can
contribute to questions such as: How do we distinguish the future from
the present and the present from the past? What are the consequences for
life to exist in time? How far can humans extend their scope of
influence and domination? What underlies the desire to escape mortality
through technological developments? What influence do technologies have
on human self-understanding, on work and life? What ways of thinking can
help in addressing the challenges posed by climate change,
globalization, digitalization, artificial intelligence and military
conflicts? How can education be rethought and what options for shaping
the future should be developed? What responsibilities and obligations do
people living today have towards future generations? What is the
relation between philosophy and science fiction? What will be the role
of philosophy in the future, in particular at educational institutions
and universities?
In this context, the 11th Congress of the Austrian Society for
Philosophy opens a forum for thinking together about the future.

Dear VDP Members,
Starting next semester, we will be changing the way we communicate in
the VDP.
The initial plan is to send VDP members an email once per month with
news and events. We are now using this list for this purpose, which you
can also use to announce your own events to the VDP community, after
being approved by the moderator (see email "Welcome to the "VDP" mailing
list!").
Please do not unsubscribe as long as you are a member of the VDP, as
this list will substitute the communication via Moodle.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
