The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with 
internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research 
and teaching. The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences at the 
University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a

*Full Professor of Political Philosophy (m/f/d)*

at salary grade W3 to commence on 1 September 2026. This is a permanent 
civil service position.

We are seeking a committed, internationally recognized individual with 
outstanding research expertise in the field of contemporary political 
philosophy. Competence and experience in interdisciplinary research, 
either theoretical or applied, in the areas of philosophy of public 
policy or governance will be considered an asset. Active participation 
in interdisciplinary teaching, supervision and further development of 
the BA programme in Philosophy & Economics is expected, as well as 
teaching and supervision responsibilities in the MA programmes 
Philosophy & Economics and Philosophy & Computer Science, among others. 
The Chair of Political Philosophy is also expected to play a key role in 
the Philosophy Department's Third Mission and outreach strategy. The 
ability to teach in English is expected.

In addition to the general legal requirements, prerequisites for this 
position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence 
in teaching, and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a 
professorial level (Habilitation). Alternatively, evidence of equivalent 
scholarly achievement, for example as a junior professor or in a 
non-university environment, will also be considered. Only applicants who 
are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants. 
Exceptions will only be made if there are urgent reasons for doing so 
(Art. 60 para 3 BayHIG).

Sammelband im Psychosozial Verlag: Climate Hope - Hoffnung und 
Hoffnungslosigkeit in den sozial-ökologischen Krisen

Bei der Auseinandersetzung mit den sozial-ökologischen Krisen und ihren 
psychischen Folgen taucht früher oder später unweigerlich die Frage nach 
der Hoffnung auf: Ist sie ein wichtiger Motivator menschlichen 
Verhaltens oder umgekehrt eine gefährliche, lähmende Einstellung? Dieses 
Spannungsfeld verläuft zwischen dem Cicero zugeschriebenen "Die Hoffnung 
stirbt zuletzt.", Greta Thunbergs "I don't want you to be hopeful" in

der Rede vor dem Weltwirtschaftsforum in Davos und dem kämpferischen 
Wahlspruch "Hope dies, Action begins" der Gruppe Extinction Rebellion. 
Der praktische, epistemische oder politische Stellenwert der Hoffnung 
ist umstritten.

Der Band soll interdisziplinär Beiträge aus der Philosophie und 
Psychologie/Psychotherapie sammeln. Er verfolgt dabei zwei 
zusammenhängende Ziele: Erstens soll explorativ erkundet werden, wie die 
Disziplinen den gemeinsamen Gegenstand verstehen und welche Vorannahmen 
der interdisziplinären Verständigung und gegenseitigen Bereicherung im 
Weg stehen könnten. Zweitens sollen zusammengehörige Fragestellungen zur 
Hoffnung zusammengebracht werden. Zu diesen Fragen gehören u. a. 
begriffliche („Was ist Hoffnung?"), normative („Was darf ich hoffen?" 
oder „Was sollen wir hoffen?"), empirische („Wie entsteht Hoffnung?") 
und lebenspraktische („Wie kann ich Hoffnung kultivieren?"). Auch wenn 
die genannten Disziplinen hier traditionell eigene Schwerpunkte setzen, 
werden diese im Band nicht vorausgesetzt. Stattdessen wird die 
Zusammenarbeit, gerne auch in Form von interdisziplinärer 
Co-Autor*innenschaft der Kapitel, angeregt.

Der finale Buchbeitrag soll einen Umfang von maximal 30.000 Zeichen 
(inkl. Leer- und Sonderzeichen, inkl. Literaturverzeichnis) haben, 
kürzere Beiträge sind ebenfalls möglich. Für die Bewerbung bitten wir um

_Information on the workshop_

Considerations about the nature or the value of welfare, its 
distribution, or welfare-based claims and complaints are central to 
moral philosophy. They are of particular concern for all philosophers 
who take welfare to be (at least) one source for normative reasons. 
Evaluative and deontic considerations about welfare provide an array of 
fascinating philosophical questions.

It is (quite) uncontroversial that welfare has moral value and provides 
moral reasons; but it is highly contested how in particular. We ought 
not to harm people, but do we also ought to benefit them? Does this 
include future people - even if their existence depends on our actions? 
And can we aggregate people's welfare, or should we limit the trade-offs 
between their harms and benefits?

Our account of welfare has implications for ethics; but do ethical 
considerations also provide reasons to adopt one or another theory of 
welfare? What is the interaction between theories of welfare and the 
ethics of welfare?

Some lives are better and some are worse; but what constitutes their 
prudential value? Are well-being and ill-being analogous or do they 
differ in structure and relevance - and what do particular theories 
imply? What are the relevant underlying concepts of desire, pleasure, 
friendship, or other objective goods on which welfare may depend?

Konferenz: NEW_LIVES-Abschlusssymposium

Welche medizinischen Chancen und ethischen, rechtlichen und 
gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen sind mit einem genomischen 
Neugeborenenscreening verbunden?

Am 18. Juli 2025 lädt die Forschungsgruppe NEW_LIVES zum 
Abschlusssymposium nach Heidelberg ein. Im Zentrum steht ein 
interdisziplinär entwickeltes Rahmenkonzept für ein medizinisch 
verantwortbares, psychologisch informiertes, ethisch reflektiertes und 
rechtlich fundiertes genomisches Neugeborenenscreening in Deutschland.

Das Symposium vereint Perspektiven aus Medizinethik, Recht, 
Humangenetik, Kinder- und Jugendmedizin, medizinischer Psychologie sowie 
der Patient:innenvertretung. Ein besonderer Programmpunkt ist der 
Austausch mit Vertreter:innen der ethischen Begleitforschung der 
Generation Study von Genomics England, in deren Rahmen das Erbgut von 
100.000 Neugeborenen sequenziert werden soll.

Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an Fachpublikum aus Bioethik, Medizin, 
Recht, Psychologie und Sozialwissenschaften sowie an interessierte 
Öffentlichkeit, Medien, Politik und Zivilgesellschaft.

Feminist Logic is a relatively new but upcoming area of study. Work in

field sheds light on sexist (and other) biases in the area of logic. 
This is a

very broad conception but it captures the diversity of the area of 
Feminist

Logic. More specifically, Feminist Logic can mean...

... to use logical tools for feminist ends, e.g., to uncover biases in 
arguments

or to model social hierarchies to make patriarchal structures explicit,

... to look at the history of logic from a feminist perspective, e.g., 
by

revealing so far disregarded contributions by female logicians and 
exposing

exclusionary practices that led to their invisibility,

... to consider teaching practices in logic and how those disadvantage 
certain

underrepresented groups,

... to devise, revise and/or argue for logical systems from a distinctly

feminist perspective, e.g., certain logical systems may seem better or 
worse

suited for formalizing feminist arguments.

This workshop aims at sharing and discussing the latest research in this 
area by

bringing together both highly distinguished as well as early career 
researchers.
