Weitere Informationen Workshop TAUSEND FRONTEN <https://phaenomenologie.univie.ac.at/forschung/workshop-tausend-fronten-kri…> · Forschungskreis Phänomenologie Salon skug KRIEG & »KULTURKÄMPFE« <https://skug.at/salon-skug-x-forschungskreis-phaenomenologie-talk-konzert-d…> · skug ··· TAUSEND FRONTEN Kritische Phänomenologien des Krieges ABSTRACT Dass der Krieg einem Chamäleon gleicht und seine Formen und Gesichter vielfach ändert, hat Clausewitz klar gesehen. Gleichwohl scheinen bei diesem Denker und nach ihm noch verschiedentlich Essentialisierungen dieses allzu menschlichen Artefakts am Werke, die durch rezente Arbeiten in den „war studies“, der interdisziplinären Gewaltforschung, aber auch der Kulturanthropologie etc. dekonstruiert wurden. Der Workshop setzt es sich zur Aufgabe, die mannigfaltigen Weisen, wie Krieg herrscht und droht, wie er in den (insbesondere westlichen) „mentalen Habitus“ (Traverso) eingegangen ist und sich institutionell verkörpert, phänomenologisch zu analysieren. Anhand konkreter Phänomenanalysen relevanter Erfahrungsräume und ihrer Verkörperungen sowie Symboliken soll gezeigt werden, auf welche Art und Weise „Krieg“ bzw. „war-like violence“ sich in verschiedensten Formen in menschliche Lebenswelten und social imaginaries einschreiben, ja diese immer schon prägen. Wie formiert „Krieg“ bzw. das, was Mary Kaldor und Herfried Münkler in ihren kardinalen Arbeiten die „Neuen Kriege“ genannt haben, unsere Auffassung von Gemeinschaft, Sozialität, Interaktion, Politik, etc.? Inwiefern ordnet (taxis) er Diskurse, oft durch eine geradezu normative Gewalt? Inwiefern verfeindet er, ohne dass Feindschaft ontologisch vorauszusetzen wäre? Inwiefern maskiert er andere, etwa kapitalistische Interessen, die vielfach als probate Heilmittel verkauft werden, um ihn – ein für alle Mal – zu beenden? Inwiefern verführt er und inwiefern ist vielleicht auch noch unser Denken selbst ihm verfallen (Patočka, Lévinas), nicht zuletzt dadurch, dass wir ihn oft als Subjekt einer Geschichte unterstellen, deren Skript anderswo geschrieben wird? Und, last but not least, inwiefern generieren seine Realitäten – seine Tausend Fronten – ihrerseits die strukturelle Indifferenz, Apathie und letztlich das „todbringende Einvernehmen“ (Camus), das es braucht, damit er herrscht? Indem er solchen Fragen nachgeht, möchte der Workshop einen Raum eröffnen, in dem das breit gefächerte Phänomen der „Neuen Kriege“ phänomenologisch beschrieben werden kann. Insbesondere soll es darum gehen, jene abgründige Tendenz einzuordnen, dass „Krieg“ vielfach zur „social condition“ (Kaldor) wird und so alle traditionellen Konzepte und Konventionen versuchen, zu unterwandern, mittels deren wir seine Realität üblicherweise fassen – und d.h. auch immer irgendwie zu befrieden. Bei all dem soll insbesondere auch die Rolle der Phänomenologie hinterfragt werden: Wie kann die Phänomenologie mit kritischen Revisionen ihrer selbst sich für Diskurse aus post-strukturalistischen feministischen, post-kolonialen und Kritischen Theorieelementen öffnen, die es fraglos braucht, um die blinden Flecken zu konfrontieren, die die Philosophie des Krieges – von Platon über Hobbes bis Hegel und Heidegger – mit ausmachen? Nicht zuletzt soll der Workshop einen Ort für den Austausch der jungen phänomenologischen und post-phänomenologischen Forschung am Institut für Philosophie in Wien bieten. ··· PROGRAMM DONNERSTAG · 1. Call for IVC Research-Fellowships, Summer Term 2026/27 Application open from September 15 - October 31, 2026 4 IVC Research-Fellowships from March 1, 2027 to August 31, 2027 The Institute Vienna Circle (IVC) offers fellowships for junior visitors (PhD students and postdocs) as well as senior visitors who wish to do research at the Institute. The maximum length of a fellowship is six months. Normally a fellowship pays €1800 gross income per month (approx. €1500 net income). Successful applicants will normally not reside in Vienna already. The application procedure is as follows: (1) Applicants send the following documents to office.wienerkreis(a)univie.ac.at <> -- by the deadline of October 31, 2026: a. CV with list of publications b. PhD Position, FWF Project “Politics of Truth”, Vienna, Deadline: 7 October 2026

The Institute of Culture Studies (IKW) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), Austria’s largest non-university institution for basic research, is offering a position as Praedoc (F/M/X) (20 hours per week, 50 %) for a period of 36 months, starting 1 January 2027 (no later than 1 March) The position is part of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) project “Politics of Truth (POLTRUTH): Rethinking Truth in a ‘Post-Truth’ World” led by PD Dr Gerald Posselt. Against the backdrop of the global rise of authoritarian populism and the ubiquity of lies and fake news in the public sphere, the project investigates the complex relationship between truth and politics from both historical and systematic perspectives. It is based on the premise that social crises and conflicts affect not only the political sphere but also a society’s regime of truth, thereby calling into question previously self-evident norms, practices, and institutions. The project aims to develop a political theory of truth that accounts for our contemporary condition, thus also shedding new light on historical events and phenomena such as the American Revolution, the French Revolution, Marxism, and fascism. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue their own PhD project, which ideally falls in the thematic scope of POLTRUTH. They will assist the PI in examining the various historical phenomena in terms of their specific politics of truth and their significance for the crisis of the current truth regime.
